"If I'm in Rome for only 48 hours, I would consider it a sin against God to not eat cacio e pepe, the most uniquely Roman of pastas, in some crummy little joint where Romans eat. I'd much rather do that than go to the Vatican.
That's Rome to me."
Antony Bourdain
I have always said that Napes is my favourite Italian city but 2024 Rome stole my heart.
twice!
Once for an actual grown up city break & then 24 hours on a rainy October day before heading down to Calbria for my last travel shoot of 2024.
Like the proper tourist I am (I'm not a traveller, I'm a tourist, we all are) I did my research by watching The Rome episode of Parts Unknown & asking my good friend Maggie who is married to a Roman for food recommendations.
I can report back that the cacio e pepe is indeed best eaten in a rough looking joint.
Drinking (lots of) cheap but great wine on the beach at Ostia is a fine way to pass a day.
I still haven't been anywhere near the Vatican.
Photos below & links to info & all the places I visited at the bottom.
Enjoy! I know I did.
